When researching about infographics, the term data visualisation comes up really frequently, and at start I was like Sméagol trying to solve Bilbo's riddle. But after some reading it’s really easy to understand why and the often confusion between the two.
So before diving into infographics, it’s important to make sure we understand data visualisation. Data visualisation is (as the name already suggests) a way/tool/system created to present data in a visual way – that simple. The main objective in here is to present the data – no storytelling, no narrative behind.
An Infographic on the other hand is a way to present a group of data, using the principles of data visualisation but also bringing a more deep, meaningful narrative to the picture. So if I got this right, a data visualisation is like an chart showing the age of the Hobbit characters, and an infographic is a complete overview of complied resources and numbers presented on “The Desolation of Smaug” movie – it give us a broader view, complying not one, but a number of data that together brings a narrative.
